Lean Six Sigma
Common Mistakes
Lean Six Sigma is an excellent productivity methodology that reduces time wasting and increases success in many aspects of the business. Implementing it will have endless long term benefits, but it can sometimes start off on the wrong footing. While mistakes are learning experiences and can yield positive results at times, it is often better to avoid them if possible, as some mistakes can be very expensive or have disastrous consequences.
Below are some common mistakes that can be avoided easily by keeping these things in mind:
Leadership Commitment
A major key to the success of Lean Six Sigma is that the leadership and management team fully support it. Without ongoing support and dedication from every level of leadership, Lean Six Sigma will be seen as something that interferes with the company, rather than something that integrates.
Deployment Strategy
Often the deployment strategy can have faults that have negative long term effects. A deployment strategy helps to get Lean Six Sigma in line with that company values and policies. A lack of alignment in this manner can lead to confusion about the point of the effort.
Training and Certification
Getting the team certified and trained to use Lean Six Sigma is highly important. However, it needs to be done in conjunction with real-life practices and the practical execution of the tasks learned. Sometimes companies focus too much on the training and getting the certification, rather than really getting to know the system and the purpose behind it.
Project Selection
The incorrect project can get Lean Six Sigma off to a bad start. Without focusing on selecting the right project, the implementation of Lean Six Sigma can go awry. The best projects to choose in order to implement Lean Six Sigma should be data-driven and focused on the customer, business, financial, and processing goals.
Acknowledging and dealing with any problems that arise early on will pave a clearer way to Lean Six Sigma to be properly implemented and start reaping the rewards. Before implementing Lean Six Sigma, the challenges must be faced and corrective actions taken so that it can work its magic effectively.
