Green Belts
Six Sigma Green Belts are, in essence, the backbone of an organisation. They play a pivotal role in the
implementation of projects and give assistance to Black Belts. For every one Six Sigma Black Belt, there are an
average of ten Six Sigma Green Belts.
Six Sigma Green belts are highly regarded by other members of their organisation. The Six Sigma Green Belt performs
project work and supports Six Sigma Black Belts on larger projects. Six Sigma Green Belts must also be capable of
managing teams.
Ideally, every management level employee will be a Green Belt. They have the Six Sigma training basics that give
them tools to enable the Six Sigma process. The brilliance of this system coupled with trained members creates
amazing results including increased earnings, increased profitability and growth.
Green Belts have completed ample training. They can further their education to move up to Black Belt status.
Black Belts
Six Sigma Black Belts are the core agents for change in an organisation. They are experts
and leaders of the Six Sigma approach. Six Sigma Black Belts implement data driven decision making to provide
measurable results.
Using statistical analysis, the Six Sigma Black Belt is able to interpret broad generalizations into specific
quantitative data. This enables an organisation to identify statistical trends and measure progress. Six Sigma
Black Belts have the problem solving and analytical tools necessary to effectively attack issues that affect a
company negatively. The result is higher profitability and lower costs.
Typically, Six Sigma Black Belts constitute about 2% of the workforce in an organisation. They are the leaders of
teams and projects. They must be held in high regard by their peers. Six Sigma Black Belts give guidance to Green
Belts.
Master Black Belts
Six Sigma Master Black Belts are Six Sigma Quality experts that are responsible for the strategic implementations
within an organisation. Master Black Belt main responsibilities include training and mentoring of Black Belts and
Green Belts; helping to prioritize, select and charter high-impact projects; maintaining the integrity of the Six
Sigma measurements, improvements and tollgates; and developing, maintaining and revising Six Sigma training
materials.
The Master Black Belt is qualified to teach other Six Sigma facilitators the methodologies, tools, and
applications in all functions and levels of the company, and are a resource for utilizing statistical process
control (typically just outside the Black Belt's knowledge base) within processes.
